Unlocking Swing Mechanics: How Peter Bakker Uses 3D Data with ELVA

Recently, Peter Bakker, Director of Instruction at the Rio Pinar Golf Academy, teamed up with our co-founder, Dr. Rob Neal, to analyze specific elements of Peter’s golf swing using the ELVA system.

During the session, Peter observed that his lead knee remained too soft and lacked the necessary extension through the swing. The ELVA system provided precise measurements of his pelvis height, revealing that while his pelvis dropped about an inch during the backswing—a normal movement—it failed to rise back up during the downswing.

To address this, Dr. Rob suggested that Peter extend his left leg earlier in the downswing to help his pelvis rise more effectively at impact. Peter then executed a practice swing focusing on maximizing his pelvic rise, which Dr. Rob noted was a significant visual improvement.

Dr. Rob also highlighted that the ELVA system offers various other metrics, such as knee angle and chest center, to help golfers track their mechanics. Furthermore, he debunked a common myth regarding head movement: although many believe the head should move down during the swing, 3D measurements of elite players consistently show that the head actually moves up as they transition through impact.

Ultimately, this session perfectly illustrates the transformative power of accurate 3D data, highlighting how the ELVA system empowers both players and coaches to elevate their game.
