Erika Smith and Dr.Rob Neal

Erika Smith discusses her year-long experience using the Elva system to improve her swing mechanics. Erika is a technical player, she highly values the system's 3D models and numerical data.

Bridging the Gap Between "Feel" and "Real": How 3D Technology is Transforming Golf Instruction

For competitive golfers, improvement rarely comes from massive mechanical overhauls. Instead, it lives in the micro-adjustments. Over the past 12 months, golfer Erika Smith and her coach have been leveraging the Elva system to dial in her swing mechanics, proving just how crucial precise, 3D data can be for refining an already solid game.

The Power of Visualizing the Swing

Golf is an incredibly intricate sport where a millimeter of difference at impact changes the entire flight of the ball. For a self-described technical player like Smith, relying on guesswork isn't an option.

Transitioning between standard sensor-based systems and the Elva system's comprehensive 3D modeling gave her a completely new vantage point on her mechanics.

"I think it's really cool to be able to see exactly where kind of every part of my body is and every part of my swing," Smith notes. "Being able to see the numbers and see a visual representation of the things that I'm doing in my swing is really great."

Calibrating "Feel" to Reality

One of the most notorious challenges in golf instruction is the disconnect between what a player feels they are doing and what their body is actually doing. Smith's coach noted that while she was already a strong player before they began working together, the 3D feedback was instrumental in tuning her "feels."

This became especially apparent during the most complex parts of her swing: the transition and the downswing.

Often, Smith felt she was executing a movement perfectly, only for the Elva system's feedback to reveal her mechanics weren't quite where they needed to be. The visual feedback allowed her to sync her physical sensations with cold, hard data.

A Game of Degrees

Ultimately, elite golf comes down to the finest of margins. It’s not about fixing a glaring slice; it’s about correcting a microscopic misalignment that the naked eye can easily miss.

For Smith, the technology's ability to highlight those tiny discrepancies has been a game-changer. "To be able to see even just a few degrees off... that can make a huge difference in the swing and the results," she explains.

As technology like the Elva system becomes more integrated into daily practice, the guesswork of golf instruction continues to vanish, replaced by actionable data that turns a good swing into a great one.
